My name is Erasmus Smit. I grew up Afrikaans in Paarl. I have family that farms in the north of South Africa. I watched people I care about manage enormous, complex operations with WhatsApp groups, paper records, and institutional knowledge that lived only in people's heads.
When something went wrong in the field, that information travelled by word of mouth — or not at all. By the time the right person knew about it, the damage was done. Compliance records were scrambled. Patterns repeated every season because nobody was connecting the data.
I knew the technology existed to fix this. Not adapted from some foreign enterprise product — built from scratch, for the specific conditions of Southern African farming. So I built it.
I built the entire Fieldmind system myself. No development team. No IT background. Just a clear problem, a lot of persistence, and the right tools. It took longer than I expected and cost more than I planned — but it works. It's live. And it's saving time and creating visibility that didn't exist before.
